Who Was Hannah?
Hannah lived during the time of the Judges, a period of spiritual and political instability in Israel’s history. She was married to Elkanah, who had another wife, Peninnah. While Peninnah bore children, Hannah was unable to conceive, which brought her deep sorrow.
Hannah’s Struggle
Hannah’s infertility caused her immense emotional pain, compounded by Peninnah’s taunts and ridicule (1 Samuel 1:6-7). Despite her suffering, Hannah faithfully attended the yearly pilgrimage to Shiloh with her family to worship God. Her persistence in the face of pain demonstrates a remarkable depth of faith.
