Day 8: Cherishing Your Covenant

Scripture

Malachi 2:14-15 “14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. 15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.”

Action

Reflect on the sacred nature of your marriage covenant. Discuss how you can honor and protect your relationship.

Prayer 

Lord, help us to cherish the covenant we made before You. Strengthen our bond and keep us faithful. Amen.

Summer’s Story

Summer shared how celebrating her anniversary with a renewal of vows deepened their appreciation for their covenant. During the ceremony, they revisited the promises they had made to each other and reflected on how God had sustained their marriage through joys and challenges. 

This act of recommitment reminded them of the sacredness of their union and renewed their determination to honor and protect their relationship. The experience brought a new level of gratitude for their journey together and inspired them to continue building their marriage on faith and love.

Day 9: The Power of Words

Scripture

Proverbs 15:1: “15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

Action

Consider how your words can impact your spouse positively or negatively. Commit to speaking with gentleness and love.

Prayer 

Lord, guide our words so they may bring peace and build each other up. Let us communicate with love and patience. Amen.

Eric’s Story 

Eric shared how choosing words carefully during disagreements diffused tension and strengthened trust. Early in their marriage, Eric and Caries arguments often escalated due to harsh or reactive language. They decided to focus on Proverbs 15:1, 

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” By pausing to consider their words and tone during disagreements, they noticed conflicts resolved more peacefully. Over time, this habit of mindful communication deepened their trust and brought more harmony into their relationship.

Questions 

  • How do your words impact your spouse’s emotions? 
  • What steps can you take to speak more lovingly?

Challenge 

Avoid negative words for a day and replace them with affirmations.

Day 10. Finding Rest in God Together

Matthew 11:28-30: “28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Action

Talk about the importance of finding rest in God amidst the busyness of life. Share how you can create space for spiritual renewal together.

Prayer 

Lord, teach us to find rest in You. Help us to prioritize our relationship with You above the demands of life. Amen.

jerry & sue’s Story 

Jerry and Sue shared how a weekend retreat helped them reconnect with God and each other. Feeling overwhelmed by the demands of work and family life, they attended a marriage retreat hosted by their church. During the retreat, they engaged in sessions focused on communication, prayer, and worship. 

They also enjoyed quiet moments of reflection together, away from distractions. By the end of the weekend, they felt spiritually renewed and deeply connected, both to God and to each other. They returned home with a fresh perspective and practical tools to strengthen their relationship.

Day 11: Pursuing Peace

Colossians 3:15: “15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Action

Reflect on the role of peace in your marriage. Discuss how you can resolve conflicts and create a harmonious home.

Prayer 

Lord, let Your peace rule in our hearts and our home. Help us to resolve conflicts with grace and love. Amen.

If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.”

mark & Sarahs Story 

Mark and Sarah shared how small daily gestures, like praying together or leaving thoughtful notes, strengthened their bond. One spouse would often leave a handwritten note of encouragement on the bathroom mirror, while the other would start their day with a short prayer together. 

These simple acts created a rhythm of gratitude and care, reminding them of their shared love and commitment. Over time, these daily gestures deepened their connection and served as a tangible expression of their devotion to each other.

Day 13: Growing in Patience

Scriptures

Galatians 5:22-23: “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Action

Patience is a fruit of the Spirit and a key ingredient in a healthy marriage. Reflect on how you can cultivate patience in your interactions with your spouse.

Prayer 

Lord, grow the fruit of patience in our hearts. Teach us to be slow to anger and quick to listen to one another with love. Amen.

michael’s Story 

Michael shared how learning to wait patiently for his wife during busy mornings became an opportunity to practice love. Instead of feeling frustrated, he decided to use that time to pray for her day. This small shift changed his perspective, and over time, he noticed their mornings became less stressful and more harmonious. His patience inspired his wife to reciprocate with acts of thoughtfulness.

Day 14: Faithful in Prayer

Talk about the power of consistent prayer in your marriage. Share how praying together can strengthen your bond and align your hearts with God’s will.

Lord, help us to be faithful in prayer for one another and our marriage. Let our time with You be a source of unity and strength. Amen.

Harrison and emma’s Story 

A Emma and Harrison shared how they started ending their evenings with prayer, no matter how tired or busy they felt. At first, it was challenging to build the habit, but as they persisted, it became a cherished routine. They found that ending their day in God’s presence brought them peace and reminded them of their shared purpose. This practice deepened their connection to each other and their faith.
